'World class' urban sports centre coming to Folkestone

'World class' urban sports centre coming to Folkestone

Last Friday I was delighted to unveil plans for the fantastic new multi-sports centre set to be built in Folkestone on the site of Tontine Street's derelict bingo hall.

Currently being demolished, the site will be redeveloped by the Roger de Haan Charitable Trust and has been designed by well-known architect Guy Holloway. The design will include three levels of skating and biking slopes and obstacles, an 11 metre high climbing frame, as well as café and bar spaces. This is brilliant news for Folkestone and the surrounding areas, especially as local young people will only pay a nominal subscription to use the facilities because they will be funded by charging people from outside the area a different rate.

It's exciting news too potentially for the Folkestone Youth Project, which I serve as Chairman of, and Folkestone Boxing Club, as both clubs - crying out for new homes - have been invited to take up residence in what will be a stunning, state of the art facility.

The plans are now going to go out to consultation and will be on public display at Sunflower House on Foord Road on May 15 & 16. The architects really want your input on the designs to make sure it provides the best urban sports experience possible. You can feed in your thoughts to the architect directly, by coming along to the consultation or by contacting me on social media.

I've also released a short video about the proposed development: Click Here
