Dungeness Power Station

Damian Collins MP had the privilege of re-opening the Dungeness B Visitor Centre alongside EDF Energy’s Chief Executive Vincent de Rivaz. It is the fifth of seven planned centres to be opened by EDF energy with the goal of engaging local communities and increasing awareness of the benefits of nuclear energy.

Damian said: “Dungeness B continues to play a vital role in the economy of Romney Marsh. This new centre is an excellent way of connecting local residents and visitors to the working life of the power station, and also increasing understanding of the importance of nuclear power to our energy infrastructure”.

“I was also encouraged to hear that EDF are supporting the extension of the operating life of the power station from 2018 to 2028.  A final decision on this is expected next year, but this extension would be consistent with average operating life of these types of reactors. It would also guarantee the jobs at Dungeness for the next fifteen years.”

“Alongside this I am continuing to make the case for a new 'Dungeness C' power station and I received the assurance from the Secretary of State for Energy, Ed Davey, that he would be happy to meet with me and any energy company that would like to discuss how it could take forward plans for a new station on that site.”
