Yesterday, Alistair Darling announced a 10% increase, above the rate of inflation, in the tax to be paid on cider.
George Osborne had confirmed this morning that the Conservatives would reverse this decision. This is good news for all cider makers, cider orchard owners and cider drinkers in Kent.
I was particularly pleased to hear this as my father worked for Bulmers cider for 25 years, and I know how cider makers are really part of the community, and in Kent their orchards have been a familiar part of the landscape for centuries.
